What had we done?!?
Just like that, Mark and I took the leap of faith together, rented the space at 74 Main Street on a handshake with the landlord, and fully committed to making a go of it in the soap and sundry business. Only then did we realize we’d better learn to make soap…
This is where Michelle came back in to the story. We reached out and explained our plan and she invited Mark for a visit. We had a few very short weeks to absorb all the information, knowledge, wisdom and experience we possibly could. Over enough beers to spark a nasty hangover, Mark picked Michelle's brain and observed her soap shop in action.
Her input and advice proved to be invaluable, and without it we’d have been desperately lost. We made the decision to stock Michelle’s tried-and-true soap until we’d learned the ropes and developed a recipe of our own.
Meanwhile, back home I was still working the bar and designing labels for products that had yet to be produced.
Mark returned home and we picked up the keys to our new store front on December 1st, 2014. Mark got to work immediately building fixtures and painting in preparation for our grand opening. Less than two weeks later, on December 13, 2014, we were open for business!
The box of soap that we purchased from Michelle and a handful of our first bath salts and beard oils were swallowed up by the shop space (we filled some space with an array of vintage, cast-iron clawfoot tubs—one of which came from what had been a brothel located in the gulch). The feedback was immediately encouraging! And the rest, as they say, is history...
True to the nature of us, we've flown by the seat of our pants through this entire process. We've followed our instincts, put in ridiculous hours, and with little more than sheer determination, we've created a thriving business.
In fact, business is so good that we are excited to tell you about our next chapter!
Starting August 11th you'll find us at our new, larger location at 25 Main Street (just up from Peddlers Ally).
In the mean time, we look forward to seeing you at our current location, but stay tuned for information on our grand reopening!
